Unlocking The Magic At The Disney Store

Unknown to many each morning the first guest(s) at the Disney Store gets the privilege of turning the key to unlock the magic and the store! I have only heard about this semi secret honor but never actually witnessed it until this morning. Savvy, Grey and I were already heading to our local Disney Store to shop their Twice Upon A Year Sale, so I figured why not get there early before opening and give this free fun task a try. Luckily we were the first family there. We got there about twenty minutes before opening. The outside LCD monitor read “It’s almost time to unlock your imagination”. We peeked inside and could see the Disney store associates had already set up a giant keyhole attached to velvet ropes. We knew the legend was true and we were going to be able to unlock the magic together.
At 10 am on the dot the store associates opened the door and welcomed us and asked if we could unlock the magic. Music started to play and lights started to flash as another associate brought out a giant key. I helped Greyson and Savannah turn the large key and with one quick turn the velvet ropes dropped, people were clapping, the store was opened and fireworks began to play on the store’s ceiling.
To remember our special day we were given a keepsake mini key to the store. Which I plan to tie some ribbon on and use a Christmas ornament next year. I think I enjoyed it more than my two little ones. If your family wants to take part in this daily opening ceremony I suggest calling your local Disney store to see their store hours and ask how far ahead of opening would get you to be part of this great tradition.
The fun didn’t stop there we stayed at the store for a little bit. The twins enjoyed the free coloring table, watching cartoons that were playing in the mini theater area, and looking into the interactive magical princess mirror. I found some great deals shopping the twice upon a year sale that is still going on in stores and online now!
